CONTINUOUS INVESTMENTS FROM ÇELEBİ GROUND HANDLING

THE MOST IMPORTANT INVESTMENT IS FOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: “The most important investment we will make in the coming period will be for software development. In 2019, we will transition to a new Cargo and Warehouse Management System.”
In 2018 a total of 100 thousand tons in Turkey were handled by Çelebi Ground Handling whereas over 1 million cargo were handled globally. Çelebi currently provides comprehensive cargo handling at Istanbul Airport with 28 airlines in a brand-new 18 thousand square meter warehouse. Çelebi Ground Handling aims to increase its portfolio significantly after its relocation to Istanbul Airport.
Çelebi Ground Handling Istanbul Regional Director Burak Kurt answered Ekovitrin's questions about the services and targets they have planned for air cargo transportation.
-Could you tell us your position in the air freight transportation sector with numerical data?
Çelebi Ground Handling has been involved in the air cargo transport sector since 1995 whereas our warehousing services in Turkey started in 2003. A total of 100 thousand tons of cargo were handled in Turkey whereas over 1 million cargo were handled globally. Çelebi currently provides comprehensive cargo handling at Istanbul Airport with 28 airlines in a brand-new 18 thousand square meter warehouse. Çelebi Ground Handling aims to increase its portfolio significantly after its relocation to Istanbul Airport.
-What criteria are at the focal point of airfreight transportation?
At the focal point of air freight transportation, the content of the cargo carried stands out. To express the importance of air freight transportation in another way, 1 percent of the cargoes that are traded in the world are carried by air cargo, whereas cargoes with a volume of 1 percent correspond to 35 percent in material value. For this reason, the priority and focus of air freight customers are to be receiving fast, safe and quality service.

What advantages does Çelebi Ground Handling provide to its customers in the services it provides in air freight transportation?
We provide advantages to our customers with investments and capacity increase in our new warehouse at Istanbul Airport. Our warehouse is the most modern structure equipped with the latest technologies and operational processes are monitored 24/7 with a total of 322 CCTV cameras.
Thanks to our technological investments our operations are carried out in optimum time. In addition, thanks to the coordinated work of our warehouse and ground handling services, we facilitate easier communication with our customers.
Which sectors do you carry out in air freight transportation? Can you provide information about your fleet and transport network?
As Çelebi Ground Handling, when we examine the data of the airlines we serve, the export of textile, automotive, food sectors are very common whereas on the import side the electronics and health sectors are highly common. As we are currently providing air cargo services at all 31 stations in Turkey, we are conducting transport operations with 200 vehicles through logistics business partners in case of need.
What alternatives do you offer to the sector in air freight transportation? Can you provide information about your service range?
Our alternative services to the air cargo sector include express cargo, inapron cargo transfer, mail, courier, baggage and logistics services. According to the needs of the airlines and the airline customers we serve, we also provide shipping services to all customers in order to produce logistic solutions by making cargo and warehouse services a complementary element. The sector is supported by two separate domestic and international customs and duty-free transport services.

What are your goals in terms of both service and investment in air freight transportation?
We focus on the goal of increasing the variety of products and services that we offer to our customers and attach importance to our future investments in this context. We started to use ETV and VNA systems in Istanbul Airport to provide effective service in our warehouse equipped with the latest technology. The most important investment we will be making in the coming period will be on software. In 2019, we will transition to a new Cargo and Warehouse Management System.
We aim to increase our service quality and shorten operational times by automating many processes. Another important investment is to install Truck Management System in our warehouse. Thanks to this system, our customers will be able to complete their transactions in a shorter time by using the appointment system. In addition, we aim to maximize customer satisfaction with our mobile application, which will provide ease of payment online.
